Governance

Governance means setting standard policies, rules, and procedures with the goal of providing a predictable and fair environment.  When properly applied, governance:

  • Ensures compliance to regulatory requirements
  • Creates uniformity but also provides flexibility
  • Provides fairness through automation
  • Delivers standardized forms and reports, simplifying administrative functions

Like it or not, rules and processes are not diminishing – in fact we can probably count on more rules as time moves forward.  As such, administration needs a system that captures and maintains them so that they are applied objectively and consistently. With people enforcing these rules & processes, errors and abuse can occur due to complexity, favoritism, or just due to a lack of knowledge.

As these evolve and grow the system must grow and evolve in kind – tracking the changes that are inevitable with governing bodies and contract negotiations. When rules, procedures, policies and process are codified – captured inside of a computer program – these can be applied with simply, fairly and objectively. Abuse and errors are eliminated as is the sizeable workforce that once was required to apply and enforce them.

The positive impact to personnel includes improved morale and lower turn-over. Specifically, when these rules and procedures are applied systematically, not only can regulatory and contractual requirements be satisfied, but also personnel will see consistency and fairness.
